Junior Jazz Camp within Jazz Camp
Junior jazz camp is for 8-12 year olds who may not be ready for the 5 day-Jazz Camp and who'd like to have fun with improvisation.
This two hour workshop will be held within Jazz Camp and led by Katie Wreede, member of the Sierra Jazz Society Faculty.
You can either sign your child up just for the workshop-within-camp or maybe your child would like to attend the morning session as well, for a taste of what Jazz Camp is all about.
Choose: 1:30 -3:30 pm Junior Jazz Camp Wed. July 21 at Nevada City School of the Arts, $40,
or
9:30 am - 3:30 pm Junior Jazz Camp Plus. July 21 at Nevada City School of the Arts, $80 includes lunch.
The morning session opens with faculty mini-concert, rhythmic call-and-response games led by one of the faculty members and a short summary of camp activities. At about 10:30 or 11 am, campers will form groups of like instruments for sectionals. Guitarists with the guitar teacher; woodwinds with the sax teacher, pianists, vocalists, string players, bassists, percussionists, brass players all with their respective teachers. After lunch which is healthy, delicious and most of the campers -- adults and children alike --really enjoy the meal, taken outdoors in the very pleasant Nevada City School of the Arts grounds. There are several adults who are keeping an eye on the children and a main desk where campers can ask questions and get information.
The full tuition of $450 is being both pro-rated and discounted for this introductory day for Junior Jazz Campers. If your Junior Jazz Camper turns out to be ready to continue for the next four days, please see Artistic Director Bill Douglass to talk about this possibility. You can reach him in person at camp or at (530) 273-5489. |
